I just swatched and reviewed the Smashbox Smokebox II Palette, and I wanted to put together a look using the colors in the palette. In particular, I wanted to use the shade “Roast,” which is a gorgeous sparkling brown shade. The fun part about smokey eye makeup is that you’re not limited to the classic silver and black colors. I put together this look using the glittery chocolate brown and the plum wine shade from the palette. It lends itself to a slightly different effect, but still makes your eyes stand out and look dramatic and sexy. To learn how to achieve this look, read on.
The Tutorial:
I am using the Smashbox Smokebox II Palette for this makeup look. I labeled the palette above so it makes it easier to follow the tutorial.
- Apply “Roast” (labeled “eyelid”) over the entire eye. I also applied this slightly above the crease so that I could use a fluffy blending brush to blend out any harsh edges without sweeping away the golden glitter in the actual eyeshadow on my eyelid.
- Apply the shade marked “Crease” into the crease of your eye, extending it into a dramatic, round shape. We’re not going for a subtle look here, so extend this shade into a round shape, following the natural shape of your eye. Blend, blend, blend this shade out so there are no harsh edges. To further blend this color out, you can use the shade marked “Brow-Bone” to blend the edges out and also simultaneously highlight your brow-bone.
- Apply the shade marked “Inner Corner” to the inner corners of your eyes. This is a matte champagne beige shade that will add light to the look. It’s also going to create a gradient effect, from light to dark, across your entire eye.
- Apply the shade marked “Crease” along your lower lash-line. Smoke this color out with a fluffy blending brush. We want the bottom of the eye to be dramatic and smokey. Make sure you connect this color with the outer corner of your upper eyelid.
- Apply “Roast” (labeled “eyelid) into the center of your lower lash-line. This is just going to add some additional sparkle to the center of your eye.
- Apply black eyeliner to your lower water-line. You can’t have a smokey eye without black liner! I applied it along my entire lower water-line, and also tight-lined my upper lash-line.
- Curl your lashes and apply mascara. You can also apply false eyelashes if you wish, but I left them out for this look. This is something I would wear if I was going out at night for a special occasion or party.
The Finished Look:
The matte plum-purple shade works well with the chocolate brown, and it helps that the crease is matte, while the eyelid is very shimmery and glittery.
The finished look is sexy, dramatic, and will make any eye color stand out. I love, love, LOVE smokey eye makeup, and this is a little twist on the classic colors, using a sparkling brown and plum shade. If you’ve got blue, green, or hazel eyes, the plum will help make your eyes look lighter, and if you’ve got brown eyes, the plum shade will make your brown eyes look brighter. It’s a great look for absolutely anyone and it’s safe to say I am obsessed with the eyelid color from this palette, “Roast.” Not only is the shade beautiful, but it is so richly pigmented and has very little fallout, unlike many glitter eyeshadow shades.
