This is one of the coolest beauty products I’ve seen in awhile. I saw swatches of this on another beauty blog, but it wasn’t until I actually went to the Sephora store in person and swatched these that I fell in love and knew I needed to have one in my collection. MAKE UP FOR EVER Holodiam Powder is limited edition for their holiday collection, and it is a finely milled loose powder with extreme holographic effects. There are two different ones in the collection, but I went with #302, which is a plum with pink, purple, and turquoise holographic effects. The woman in Sephora was actually wearing this on top of a dark red lipstick and it looked stunning on her. Inside I’ve got plenty of swatches and pictures of just how cool the effect is…
I even love the packaging on this product. It grabs your attention and gives you a little preview of what is to come inside!
Even with the cap still on you can get a preview of the holographic effect this gives off. It has more than two flashes of color in it to make it a duo-chrome, so it’s like a tri-chrome? It really looks three-dimensional when you look at it.
The powder is very finely milled, so while it looks like a glitter, it actually feels like a powder with very little to no grittiness at all. I would say that was one of my main selling points on the product, to be honest, because I really dislike when chunks of glitter end up in or near your eyes. Finely milled powders that sparkle and shine are the way to go with my own personal preferences.
Applied alone, you get the holographic turquoise effect, along with the plum, purple, and pink. I had to take a picture of the finger I used to swatch it, too, because it just looked too cool when it was blended out on my swatching finger!
The overall effect is very holiday-esque, and reminds me of sparkling ornaments and sugar plum fairies. I might just be in the holiday spirit a little bit too much, but it really is apropos for the entire holiday season and beyond.
Where this product really shines is over top of a base color. Just wait for it…
I used a brown and black base for the product, and this is what it looks like. It takes on an entirely different look, depending on which way you hold your skin to the light. Just by turning my palm to the right, it then looked like this:
And then by switching my hand up to another angle, it looked like this:
The point is, this MAKE UP FOR EVER Holidiam Powder is absolutely stunning and unique. The effect is even more beautiful in person, and I highly recommend you check it out at a Sephora near you if you can. If you like to wear sparkle and shine around the holiday season, you’re going to love this product. I think this would be stunning for New Year’s Eve, as well.
Some of the ways I would wear this:
- Over a base shade on my entire eyelid
- On top of my cheeks for a touch of sparkle with blush
- Applied over top of black eyeliner to make holographic glitter liner
- In the center of my lips, applied over a lipstick shade
The possibilities are endless, and it is safe to say I am in love with this product. $25 might seem like a splurge for such a small amount of product, but a little goes a very long way, especially when applied wet. There is also another shade, #303, which is white with blue, green, and gold highlights. Both are gorgeous, but I liked shade #302 better for my skin-tone and makeup preferences.
MAKE UP FOR EVER Holidiam Powder retails for $25.00 USD and is limited edition for Holiday 2012. This product can be purchased at Sephora stores nationwide and online.
