Everyone loves a black smokey eye, but what about the often neglected navy blue? Navy blue offers a different spin on smudged, smokey eye makeup, and it can really bring out hazel and brown eyes. Maybelline’s “Sweet Summertime” Collection includes a limited edition Eye Studio Cream Pencil in Navy Knockout, and it’s the perfect inexpensive eyeliner to use for a smokey blue look.

Navy Knockout is a dark blue eyeliner with a hint of shimmer in it. The shimmer is very fine and just barely noticeable, but it actually makes the navy blue that much prettier. This eyeliner was extremely creamy and applied beautifully to the back of my hand when I swatched it.
I’ve been seeing a lot of celebrities on the red carpet wear navy smokey eyes lately. It’s currently very trendy, but beyond being trendy, it can be incredibly flattering to those of you with hazel and brown eyes. Of course, blue and green eyed people can wear this and look great too, but the navy really brings out the warmth in brown and hazel eyes.
On my eyes, this liner was lovely. It easily glided onto my lids, and I was able to apply it to my waterline without any difficulty. For this look, I applied a light matte brown shade into the crease of my eye, and then applied Navy Knockout to my upper and lower lash-line, smudging it out for a smokey effect.
Overall, the liner was very pigmented and opaque when applied. It lasted for a long time on my eyes, since it’s waterproof and long-wearing. The very fine shimmer in Navy Knockout makes it that much prettier of a blue shade, and this is an incredibly flattering alternative to your usual black eyeliner. Best of all, it’s drugstore available, and comes with a drugstore price tag!
Maybelline’s Eye Studio Cream Pencil in “Navy Knockout” is limited edition for May 2013 only. The other limited edition pencil in the “Sweet Summertime” Collection is Taupe Takeover. Each pencil retails for $7.99 USD and can be found at drugstores and mass retailers nationwide.
