I don’t wear blue eyeshadow very often, but when I do, I just adore a blackened-blue shade. Any shade of blue that is a dark, shimmering sapphire color will do, and I think this not only brings out your eye color (no matter what color your eyes are!), but it’s a great twist on your typical smokey eye shades. I decided to put this look together in case any of you are looking for a last minute Thanksgiving makeup look. This also works fantastically well for holiday parties and events coming up in the next few weeks. When you combine dark blue with brown in the crease of your eyes, magic happens. It looks sultry, sophisticated, and very sexy. I’m using NARS Eye Paint in Ubangi for this look, which is absolutely stunning. Check out the full look inside,

The eyes are all about drama. A shimmering blue shade with a darkened base brings it here. I’m using NARS “Ubangi” Eye Paint for my eyelid and underneath my eyes along the lower lash-line. To make this even more amplified, I started with a black cream base. You can use NYX Jumbo Pencils or the Jordana 12hr Eye Pencils, which you can find at the drugstore. The black base gives it something to stick to, and the blue shimmer really shows up even more against a black base. I patted NARS “Ubangi” over my entire eyelid, building up the intensity of it. For my crease, I used a thin fluffy blending brush and blended in a matte brown shade. I did this in layers, and went over it several times until it was the intensity that I wanted. This transitions the blue so that there are no harsh edges. I also used the matte brown shade along my lower lash-line to blend out that blue.
EYE PRODUCTS USED:
- MAC Cosmetics “Blackground” Paint Pot
- NARS Ubangi Eye Paint
- LORAC Pro Eyeshadow Palette
- L’oreal Paris Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in “Black”
- Too Faced “Better Than Sex” Mascara
The finished eye makeup is smokey, smoldering, and blended out, with a pop of sapphire shimmer in the middle of the eyelid.
When doing a heavy smokey eye, especially if I’m working with blue or green shades, I keep the makeup very neutral. I used bronzer to contour my cheekbones and highlighted my cheekbones, down the middle of my nose, and above my cupid’s bow. The lips are a brown-based nude shade, which always goes great with blue or green eye makeup.
FACE & LIP PRODUCTS USED:
- Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 5.5
- Too Faced “Hotel Heiress” Bronzer
- Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette
- Covergirl Lipstick in “Delish”
- Milani Lip Liner in “04 – All Natural”
The result is a chiseled looking face with highlighted cheekbones, neutral-nude lips, and super smokey eyes. It’s a dramatic look, but it’s the holiday season, and it’s the time for sparkle, shimmer, and high drama when it comes to beauty.
I hope you all have a VERY happy and healthy Thanksgiving Day!
