A few weeks ago when Coachella was happening, I was browsing through pictures of the fashion from the event and one of Katy Perry caught my eye. She was holding up a lipstick with her friends that said “Katy Kat Matte” on it and of course, the makeup world went wild with curiosity. The lipsticks happen to be part of the Covergirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick Collection, and they are absolutely brilliant. Each shade name is a pun having to do with cats, which Katy Perry herself loves. The shades are all matte, so they have a flat finish with very little shine to them. I’ve got my thoughts and swatches, as well as a photograph of the full display inside,
As soon as I saw the display, I picked up almost all of the shades. Then I realized I really don’t need to own every single shade, so I figured choosing my favorite shades would be best. These retail for $7.99USD each at my local Walgreens and they were buy one, get one 50% off, so I chose 4 shades. You can see by the display that there is a wide variety of shades to choose from. You have everything from a jet black to a lavender.
Sphynx is a peachy-pink nude shade. This color is extremely versatile and really great for daily wear, so of course I picked it up. It’s really the perfect balance between nude, pink, and coral, so it will work on every skin tone.
Catoure is a berry-toned mauve. It’s light/medium in tone and again, will be really flattering on a variety of skin tones. This is one of those classic “your-natural-lip-color-but-better” shades.
Kitty Purry is a lavender pink shade and probably my favorite out of the ones I purchased. This is actually a great dupe for MAC’s “Lavender Whip” lipstick. It’s a nice way to wear the purple lipstick trend without being over the top.
Maroon Meow is a wine shade. This is one of those shades that is pretty unexpected for the spring and summer, but it still works well with minimal eye makeup. It applied just slightly patchy, but I also didn’t fully prep my lips before this swatch.
Overall, my opinion on these lipsticks is that they’re pigmented, smooth, buttery, and a great beauty bargain. For $7.99USD each at the drugstore, they’re affordable, accessible, and very cute to boot. I personally see myself going back for even more shades in the future!
