I’m always on Instagram, popping around and getting inspiration from other makeup artists and beauty lovers. Basically, it gets me into trouble because I end up hearing about makeup brands and products that I want to try and I end up falling in love, such as with ColourPop! I had seen them around the Instagram community and decided to go ahead and make a purchase since these are only $5 a piece (yes, you read that right). I was blown away by not only the packaging and the color payoff, but by the unique formula that I had never encountered before. You’ll see what I mean when you read inside…
My first impression was that the packaging is gorgeous. I love when makeup brands go out of their way to make their packaging look unique. I didn’t know what to expect since these were only $5 each, but I was definitely impressed. The packaging looks high-end and has a funky holographic logo on it.
All of these are made in the USA, which I love. I support domestic business and I like that I’m not getting something that was made from overseas.
The packaging says to make sure you keep the jars closed tightly after using them. I was curious about this since most powder eyeshadow doesn’t dry out or need to be closed tightly. It wasn’t until I dipped my finger into one of these that I realized they are squishy, bouncy, and creamy. These remind me of the MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow’s, in that they are squishy looking and feeling and go from a cream to a long-lasting powder finish. You can literally push and “mold” the eyeshadow with your finger or brush. However, the lasting power is there once you place the product down. It dries down to a powder-like finish and stays put. It’s a very, very unique formula and one that I can get down with. Here are swatches of the 6 shades I picked up…
Amaze is a gorgeous bronze shade. You can see in the picture above what happens when you put your finger into the product. It literally squishes down and to the sides as you use it, which is really cool. The product itself feels super creamy and soft going on, but it dries down to a lasting powder-like finish. This shade has such a depth and dimension to it that the camera doesn’t even do it justice. It has a brilliant sparkle and shimmer to it and glows different shades in the light. All of these ColourPop shades have an unreal depth and dimension to them.
Cricket is a violet purple with loads of multi-dimensional sparkle to it. You can see that this shade looks cracked, which I saw when I opened my package. I was all upset until I touched the eyeshadow and realized that it just separated upon shipping and you can mold it back to shape. If you get any that look “cracked” don’t be disappointed! This shade is so pigmented and full of bronze and hot pink sparkle. Photographs just do not do these justice in any way. They are EXTRAORDINARY!
So Quiche is an olive-taupe shade with LOADS of bright pink sparkle and reflects. Oh my god. This is what dream eyeshadow is made of. This has to be my favorite of the bunch because of how unique it is. My camera picked up on the duo-chrome effect it has, but in person, if you can even imagine, it looks even more heavenly.
Krinkle is a muted grey-blue with loads of sparkle and shimmer in it. Be still my heart. A blue that is SUPER wearable and flattering, this shade has the perfect amount of reflects and shimmer in it.
Shameless is a darkened emerald green in a black base with tons of bright blue and green shimmer and micro-glitter in it. When the light hits it, it’s magic.
Bae is a dark plum with bright teal reflects and shimmer in it. I was actually pleasantly surprised when I swatched this one. I wasn’t expecting the base to be purple at all! It’s so gorgeous though and I love how pretty it is on the skin.
These were all swatched with absolutely no eyeshadow primer or base. I tried to capture the dimension and sparkle in each of them but you have to take my word for it when I tell you that these are even more breathtaking in person.
Overall, I’m a huge, huge fan of ColourPop now. At $5.00 USD each, these are a major beauty bargain. A little bit goes a long way due to the pigmentation and unique formula. They have TONS of shades to choose from as well as different finishes (metallic, pearl, satin, etc). What’s cool is that they offer free shipping with any $30 order, so if you decide to purchase 6 or more of anything like I did, you don’t have to pay for shipping. These are a major beauty find in my book and I need to add more shades to my collection ASAP. They also just recently came out with Lippie Stix, which are super pigmented lip colors for $5, as well. Looks like I’ll be getting into trouble!
