Today I’ve got six of the gorgeous shades from the China Glaze Holiday Joy Collection. I always look forward to the holiday collections, because even though they often contain similar shades and themes, the colors are always gorgeous and classic. I was impressed that this collection had a little bit of everything…sparkle, glitter, creme, and metallic shades. I’ve got swatches and a review of each shade inside,
The entire Holiday Joy Collection contains twelve shades, and while I only have six of them for review, these are enough to make nail polish enthusiasts salivate. I think there’s something about holiday nail polish collections that never gets old. The anticipation of the sparkle and glitz, the classic red shades…it just never gets old.
Pure Joy is a red and gold glitter shade, with the red glitter being much finer than the gold pieces. This actually ended up much more opaque than I expected, but I did find it just a tad hard to work with. The glitter tends to get chunky and thick and want to stick together. Also, glitter is notoriously hard to remove, but I actually found that the other glitter shades in this collection removed quite easily compared to this one.
Merry Berry is a deep, rich, scarlet red creme. Stunning. This is such an updated take on classic red nail polish, and it’s extremely trendy right now. I just think it flat out looks sophisticated and screams sexy. I’d call it oxblood like all the high end fashion magazines, but I just can’t get over how ridiculous that sounds! This was smooth and applied beautifully in just two coats.
Red Satin is a slightly deepened candy apple red. I say slightly because it still looks bright and very cool-toned, but it has a touch of darkness to it. This is another stunning classic red shade that applied beautifully in just two coats. I could have even gotten away with just one coat, but I always feel the need to put on two for some reason. This is such a shiny color when it hits the light!
Glitter All The Way has green, purple, red, and gold glitter. The first thing I thought of when I saw this polish was Mardi Gras, and confetti. The colors just mimic those two in my mind. It went on very opaque within two coats, and I had no problems with it being thick or chunky. I also found that this shade removed fairly easily for a glitter. I think this would look especially gorgeous when applied over top of a dark base color, or even as an accent nail. It’s a party on your nails!
Angel Wings is a holographic gold glitter shade. Um, WHAT?! It’s so stunning, I can’t take it! I love, love, LOVE the holographic shine this polish gives off. Above is two coats of polish, and it is perfectly opaque. Oh, and it’s also super easy to remove this polish considering it is a glitter. Notice my bright blue cuticles, which brings me to the last shade of the bunch…
Blue Bells Ring is a metallic blue that is extremely vivid. I was not expecting to love this one as much as I do. It’s my favorite shade out of the six, and it blew my mind. It didn’t leave behind “stroke marks” like a lot of metallic polishes do, and it was so incredibly rich and opaque that one coat would have done it. Pictures do not do this shade justice. At all. In person it is even more vivid, icy, and metallic. In my opinion, the winner of the entire holiday collection. I do feel the need to forewarn you though…like a lot of blue nail polishes, this one will stain your nails and cuticles, so be sure to use a base coat if you’d prefer to avoid that. I, of course, in my moment of not thinking, swatched this shade first, and ended up with stained fingernails and cuticles for the rest of my swatches. Doh!
