When it comes to looking well-rested, the eyes are the window to sleep. While I don’t have terrible dark circles, I do suffer from puffiness underneath my eyes. In general, the brighter your eye area looks, the more youthful and well-rested you look. Unfortunately, between careers, kids, family, housework, and lack of sleep, this is a common problem for women everywhere. I love this Neutrogena Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector SPF25. There are many eye brightening products on the market, many of them very expensive. I personally own YSL Touche Eclat, which is a very similar product to this one, where the product dispenses out of a pen-like applicator. The YSL version costs over three times more than this Neutrogena one, and I find that the Neutrogena pen gets the job done.

One of the things I love the most about this particular eye brightener is that it has SPF25 in it. Even in the fall and winter, it’s important to wear SPF on your face. One of the area’s that tends to wrinkle first is the eyes, and this can be due to sun damage, so having SPF in this product takes the extra work out for you. The pen has a patented blend of antioxidants, including Vitamin E, wild chamomile, and soy. It’s also meant to de-puff your eye area if you have bags. If you’re a contact lens wearer or you have sensitive eyes (like I do), this is a great option for you because I find all Neutrogena products to be great for sensitive skin and eyes.
I wear the color “Fair,” which is the lightest one you can find. There is also Buff, Light, and Medium, going from lightest to darkest. My skin is generally light to medium toned with olive undertones, but since I want my eye area to be the lightest and brightest it can possibly be, I chose an eye brightening pen that is much lighter than my skin color.
The pen applicator is awesome. You simply twist the bottom up, and the product dispenses through a pen applicator brush which you can use to dot onto your eye area. I always apply this to my under-eye area, my brow-bones, my eyelids, and the inner corners of my eyes. This makes sure that the entire area of my eye looks really light and bright.
You can see in the above picture where I typically apply the product. I will then use my Beauty Blender sponge to pat the product into the skin lightly, and use my fingertips to pat the product along my brow-bone and inner corners of my eyes. Don’t forget to also pat the product along the outer corners of your eyes below where your eyebrows end. If you are like me, that area tends to have a dark shadow because of bone structure.
In my Before picture you can see that I have some redness along my brow-bone area and there is some unevenness in my skin tone on my eye lid, inner corners and underneath my eyes.
The After picture shows that the product concealed and covered the redness in my brow-bone area, as well as evened out my skin-tone across my eyelid, inner eyes, and underneath my eyes. The skin looks considerably brighter than it did. While I can’t say I noticed a huge difference in the puffiness underneath my eye, my eye area does look overall much healthier and well-rested.
I think this is a fantastic inexpensive drugstore option for those of you who need to brighten up your eye area. It actually gives good coverage, like a concealer, but it also brightens and lightens your eye area well. You can wear this alone or under eyeshadow, and I can see this making a good eyeshadow base, since it neutralizes your natural eyelid pigment. It definitely makes your eye area look well-rested and healthy, especially if you have dark circles. The addition of SPF25 makes it perfect for protecting the skin around your eyes against the sun’s harmful rays.
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector SPF25 is available at mass retailers and drugstores nationwide. Each pen retails for $11.99 USD, making this a major beauty bargain! So many brightening pens like this out there cost two or three times this price, while the Neutrogena version works fantastically. You can also browse and purchase this product on Neutrogena’s website. This is also a good product for highlighting and brightening other area’s of your face, such as down the center of your nose and onto the tops of your cheekbones.
