Artificial nails have come a long way since even I was a teenager, with brands like Nailene creating gorgeously natural looking artificial nails that can be applied quickly and easily. My thirteen year old niece, Destinee, wanted to spend some of her savings money towards gel nails at the nail salon. After convincing her to let me apply Nailene’s Nail Couture Artificial Nails on her, she is beyond happy that she did not spend her money on those gel nails. She loved the funky design, and how natural the nails looked on her. To learn the proper steps to getting a perfect finish to your artificial nails,

Nailene Nail Couture in "Platinum"
- Nailene Nail Couture in “Platinum,” is a full artificial nail set that you can purchase at your local drugstore. It includes twenty-four nails in twelve sizes, a nail buffer and file, a cuticle pusher, and nail glue. The Nail Couture Collection is inspired by nail designs straight off the fashion runway, bringing you the latest nail trends. This particular set is medium length, with a square shape, and looks extremely natural on your nails. “Platinum” features a funky metallic silver tip with a black swirl design, and silver glitter. It’s an extremely fresh, modern take on the classic french manicure. As soon as my niece saw this set, she knew the design was for her!

Step One: Buff Nails
- Step One: Using the buffer that comes in the kit, or your own nail buffer, lightly buff your nails to prepare them for nail glue. Use a sweeping back and forth motion. At this time, you should also file your nails if necessary, and make sure your natural nail length is short, so they will not pop out underneath the artificial nail.

Step Two: Push back cuticles
- Step Two: Using a cuticle pusher (this kit comes with one), gently push back your cuticles. This helps your cuticles to stay healthy, and to prepare your nail bed for the artificial nail. You do not want your cuticle to grow over your artificial nail, so pushing your cuticles back is a crucial step in applying artificial nails.

Step Three: Find your size
- Step Three: Find the correct sizes for your nails by matching up the artificial nails to your natural nails. The ideal size is not too large that it cuts into your skin, or overlaps your cuticles, and not too small that you can see parts of your natural nail on the sides. If you are having a hard time finding your ideal size, you may select an artificial nail that is slightly larger than your natural nail, and lightly file the sides of the artificial nail down.

Step Four: Apply nail glue
- Step Four: Apply the nail glue that is provided in the kit to the bottom of the artificial nail, and also spread a tiny amount of glue onto your natural nail. At this time, you want to carefully apply your artificial nail to your natural nail, making sure to press down from the middle of the nail, holding for approximately thirty seconds, to ensure the glue has bonded to your nail. Be careful not to apply too much glue, as excess glue can seep out from underneath the nail, or cause bubbles underneath the nail.
Viola! Natural looking, gorgeous artificial nails that will last for up to a week. And, these nails have a fraction of the price tag artificial nails have at nail salons.

I am a nail/polish-a-holic so this tutorial made my day!
I’ve always been interested in glue on nails, but I’m kind of scared of using glue.
I really like the style of nail you chose & the manicure turned out SO pretty. It looks like your niece went to the salon. Amazing!
I’m definitely going to give these nails a try.
Thanks Beauty Gala & Destinee!
Thank you so very much, Park Avenue! You probably just made Destinee’s week with that compliment! I will have to show it to her.
I am doing an article this week on how to remove artificial nails without damaging your actual nail beds. Glue is scary for me, too, especially since I don’t want to ruin my natural nails!
These nails are nice. nailene is stepping their game up!
Thank you Lachelle! I agree, Nailene has really come to the forefront with their products!
I luv all things nails!! Nailene has been my go to brand for many years. I started getting acrylic nails five years ago, and loved them…until recently when I developed an allergy to the acrylic…uuugggh!!! I had to remove the false nails for good. My thought was…great, now I am back to my weak flimsy and bendy nails that are to soft to break, they rip and tear… and that is how they have always been with out acrylic to strengthen them…jsut genetics I guess…I just applied Nailene daily wear naturals nails in # 22112 they have whit tips with purple flowers and swirls.. I paid $3 a pck for them at family dollar… so much more affordable and natural looking than those acrylic nails…what was I thinking ? saving money and having gorgeous nails is possible! I will never go back to acrylic nails again!!!
