The fall season is all about celebrating berry, brown, plum, and neutral lipstick shades. It is no secret that I adore Revlon lipstick, and every time I am in a drugstore, I find myself itching to buy a new shade. Today, I purchased “Berry Haute” from the Super Lustrous Collection, and I have a confession to make…the cute, cheesy name caught my eye right off the bat. The lipstick is a vampy mauve-purple creme, and reminds me a lot of the MAC lipstick, “Up The Amp.” Now, I adore “Up The Amp,” because it is not for the faint of heart. When you wear the color out, people notice your lips, which is part of the reason I love the shade so much. As a departure from the classic red lip, it screams to be the show-stopper, while carrying a unique edge. To see swatches of “Berry Haute,”
Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick is a winner in my book because it’s moisturizing to your lips, but it doesn’t look shiny like a gloss. It doesn’t have a slippery feel to it whatsoever, and very much feels like a lipstick. The lipstick wears for a long-time…in fact, even when I wipe it off with a napkin, a pretty wash of color is left on my lips. “Berry Haute” is really a gorgeous “notice me” shade for the upcoming fall season, with its amplified creme wash of purple color. When I wear this, I feel vampy, sexy, and like a modern day pin-up.
Another reason why I love this Revlon lipstick is for the packaging. For a lipstick that retails for only $7 (inexpensive by even drugstore lipstick standards these days), the lipstick tube feels and looks luxurious, rich, and high-end. I love the gold metallic accents on the lipstick tube!
This lipstick is literally drenched in dramatic, vampy purple pigmentation. Love. Another thing worth noting is that “Berry Haute” is very much a cool-toned purple like MAC “Up The Amp.” I have warm skin, so I was worried that this would clash on my face and look really terrible. While my eye makeup below was originally paired for a neutral lip all day, and isn’t what I would normally pair with this lipstick, the shade still works with my skin tone, even though I have a warm-toned complexion. Also, because “Berry Haute” has blue-toned purples in it, it makes your teeth look extremely white.
Overall, the color of “Berry Haute” compared with MAC’s “Up The Amp” is extremely close, and quite a great dupe. The Revlon version is less than half the price, and you still get that amplified, bright purple look to your lips.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick is available at drugstores nationwide, and retails for $6.99 a lipstick.
