It seems like every single year Gucci Westman, makeup artist and creative director for Revlon, has come out with a smash-hit limited edition makeup collection for Revlon. The Expressionists Collection is truly a beautiful collection, and when I stumbled across the display at CVS last night, I was tempted to grab one of everything. The nail polish from the collection is glittery and glamorous, the eyeshadow is shimmery and chic, and the lip colors are perfect for fall and winter. Violet Frenzy is one of the lipsticks from this collection, and I originally picked it up because the color intimidated me in the packaging. You will almost never find me grabbing for dark, vampy lipstick shades, but I decided to be brave and give it a chance. You’ll be surprised to learn that this lipstick is nowhere near as scary as it looks in the tube, and it applies a gorgeous berry-purple shade to your lips. To see photographs and swatches,
Purple is my favorite color, and has been for many, many years. I love purple lip color, but I tend to stick with lighter purple-inspired shades, and I never venture off into full on deep purple. The color is gorgeous in the tube, giving off that shimmery, deep violet tone…but how would it translate to my lips?
I had an inkling that this lipstick would put down good pigmentation, but still be sheer enough to be very wearable. Call it an intuition, call it owning-way-too-many-lipsticks, but I was correct. It is a bit sheer, and the color can be applied for a sheer wash of berry purple, or layered for a darker, vampy look.
I was very impressed with how wonderful this lipstick looks outside of the tube. It’s not too dark, it has buildable color, and it is a shade that is universally flattering on all skin tones and hair colors. When I wear this lip color, I apply a plum blush on the apples of my cheeks, a little eyeliner on my upper lash line, and coat my lashes with mascara. The result is total sophistication with a touch of glam, and it makes my blue-green eyes stand out bigtime.

Ooh, I think I saw the nail polish from this collection in the new ULTA ad – I just saw the picture and wished they had the name of the polish – then I just came to your blog and found out! hehe. Beautiful lipstick although I find the shade a bit intimidating.
