Autumn 2011 Lookbook: Dior Blue Tie Collection, Rouge Dior Lipstick, “428 – Pisanelle Pink,” Photographs & Swatches

Dior’s brand new line for autumn is called the Blue Tie Collection, and consists of gorgeous shades of blue and grey, along with beige, nude, and pink based lip colors and blushes. While I may not wear blue on my eyes very often, I am always smitten with lipsticks that have that beige-nude-pink tone to them. Not only do these colors go well with everything from an intense smokey eye to a bright blue or green eye, but they can also be worn to more demure occasions like a job interview, or to class for a more natural look. Pisanelle Pink is a gorgeous beige-pink lipstick that can be worn for all of the above occasions and more. To see photographs and swatches,

When I originally saw the Dior Blue Tie Collection, I was excited because blue eye makeup (especially blue smokey eyes) means demure, beige lips and cheeks. If I had to choose the lip color I reach for most often, it would be my beige-pink shades. I reach for them when I am wearing just mascara, and want a little color to my face. I reach for them when I’ve done an intense, smoldering smokey eye and need to keep the rest of the look dialed down. I’ve gone through countless beige-pink lipsticks, and I still get excited every time I spot a new brand or formula.

The packaging on Dior beauty products is always flawlessly luxurious. You always have that feeling of indulgence when you pull one of their makeup products out of your makeup bag.

Pisanelle Pink is a gorgeous beige-pink lipstick, with some mauve undertones in it. It makes a fabulous “your-lips-only-better” shade, where you are just subtly highlighting your lips. I was curious about where the “Pisanelle” in this shade name came from, and whether or not it was French word that had a connection to this color or collection. After doing some research, I found an article about a cocktail ensemble from Christian Dior which is now in a museum. It describes Christian Dior as being a huge fan of Italian Renaissance artist Antonio Pisanello, and creating a “Pisanelle Cocktail Ensemble” for fall/winter of 1949-50. Guess what color the gorgeous cocktail ensemble is? You guessed it…gorgeous dark blue! To see the ensemble and read up on the history, read the article here. I love finding out the origins of words and names in fashion and beauty, because they often have a deeper history with many of the more iconic designers.

Pisanelle Pink can look slightly different depending on the lighting, sometimes leaning more toward a rosy pink, and sometimes leaning toward more of a mauve-pink.

I love that this shade isn’t completely matte, but isn’t extremely shimmery or glossy either, making it look very sophisticated.

The formula on this lipstick was a dream. It was smooth, moisturizing, and didn’t have any unpleasant scent or texture to it. This is a shade that will really plump-up the look of your lips and make them look really full and healthy. Overall, you cannot go wrong with a neutral pink shade of lipstick that goes with everything from dramatic to natural looks.
