This is the fourth straight day of nothing but gloomy gray skies and rain, and over the weekend it just got plain frigid up in here! Yesterday I hiked it out to my local Ulta store and picked up a few drugstore-priced items that I found. I figured I’d do a little mini-haul along with swatches and my thoughts on each product. I’ve got one of the NYX Butter Glosses for you, the Khroma Beauty Touch Tones Palette, an NYX Glitter Liner, and the newly brought back Revlon Photoready Skinlights!
First up, the NYX Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait. I have heard a couple of people raving about this gloss. Here’s the deal: I’m not really a lip gloss person. I prefer lipstick to lip gloss any day of the week, and I rarely wear anything super glossy on my lips anymore. That being said, this has a nice texture for a lip gloss. It’s not sticky, it smells faintly sweet and pleasant, and it feels moisturizing on the lips. However, the pigmentation leaves much to be desired…
Strawberry Parfait took me a good 5 or 6 swipes to even show up. By the time I had that many coats on, my lips felt over-saturated with product, and as you can see, the color was not evenly dispersed on my lips, at all. To be honest with you, I won’t be purchasing any more of these NYX Butter Glosses. They’re just not my cup of tea.
NYX Liquid Crystal Liner in Crystal Silk was a hit for me. The base of the glitter is not super pigmented, but it will make the perfect addition to black eyeliner for a glittery touch. You can also add this along the lower lash-line for extra glitz around the holiday season, or pat this over your entire eyelid! I like how versatile this is as an eye product and the glitter is really pretty in the light.
Khroma Beauty Touch Tones Palette in Mirage. I’m not a fan of the Kardashian family, but I do think their makeup is always on point, so I love their beauty line. This Touch Tones Palette is full of matte and shimmer shades that are in warm tones. Just quick swatches on my arm show that they’re nicely pigmented. When I use these for my eye makeup, though, I’ll wet my brush for extra intensity. These are really pretty for a sparkling eye makeup look…especially a smokey eye!
Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator in Bare Light is GORGEOUS. I had heard that Revlon was bringing this very popular product back to the United States, and all I can say is, THANK YOU REVLON! This product is a liquid illuminator and is absolutely gorgeous. I purchased mine in Bare Light, which is a golden beige shade. There was also a Pink Light, Peach Light, and a Bronze Light, I believe. This is the one that will work best with all skin tones, no matter how fair or dark skinned you are. It’s absolutely stunning for a cheekbone highlight, a brow-bone highlight, to use along your collarbones, or even to add to your foundation for a dewy look.
These Revlon Skinlights give your skin a super natural glow that looks lovely. I highly recommend checking them out as they’re back in the product line now!
Hopefully the sunshine will come out sometime soon here, although it looks like I may have to wait until Wednesday for that. For now, I’m hibernating in my winter clothing inside, bringing you the latest beauty scoop. It’s cold out there! Stay warm!
